tune up options
I will be tuning the D up in the next week or so. Plugs, cap, rotor and wires.
I usually get the Bosch quad fires and just OEM wires/cap/rotor. What do you guys use when doing so? anything else you change. I was thinking of maybe a different coil any suggestions?
Thanks

If you are usin plat's then they are crap, and expensive crap at that. I personally couldn't keep the D running when it was cold on those things. Of course that was when I was at work in the middle of the night so I wasn't changing them. I had to keep the rpms up at about 1000 until the engine warmed up. The next day I went out to get Champions and the thing ran better than when I bought it. Someone stuck plat's in before I got it even though they didn't need a tune up yet at only 29XXX miles.
CessPool,
You can do a search on the bosch plugs in this forum and find alot of negative feedback on these plugs. The D's and Dak's and some other Chrysler vehicles do not run well with those plugs.

Here is my advise...
Get a cap and rotor with BRASS connections. NAPA has them. Better that the stocker stuff.
Get AutoLite 3923s. Runs better, faster, just have to change them out in two years instead of 3.5.

I'll try some different plugs...
I understand that people have had bad luck with Bosch, but I'll swear by them and I'll tell you why.
I bought my D brand new in Aug of 99, so It's going on 8 years old. I fouled out the #1 plug at about 8K miles, no biggie...it happens sometimes. It doesn't however happen 5 or 6 times by 25K miles. I took it to the dodge dealer 4 times, under warrenty, and 4 times they put a new plug in it and said it was fouled. I argued it doesn't just foul like that, but why would Dodge want to pay to fix whatever it was. So I put Bosch quad fires in it. 100K miles later, I have NEVER fouled out a plug. I am on my second set, but the first set was still good when I changed them last. I think at about 100K was when I switched them. I guess maybe the spark needed to be hotter, which the Bosch did the job. At the time I was unaware of these forums (if they even existed...) My check engine light has never come on for any reason other than the fouled #1 plug (and this recent bout with the losing my guages which isn't engine related). Thes plugs have been like gold to me.
I'm sure the dealer could find a problem now that I'm not under warrenty. The last time I went there, My Cap was bad. 45K still under warrenty. Day before Vacation. Truck sputtered and barely ran, I had It towed while I was at work and told them "I need it today I am leaving first thing in the morning". At closing time that day they told me "we'll look at first thing in the morning" I was pissed. I met them there right when they opened at 8 am. Of course the Mechanic that was to look at my truck was late buy 45 minutes. He looked said the cap and wires needed replaced which isn't covered under warrenty (which is crap) that it's normal wear and tear. (which, at 45K, is crap again) I said I'll do it my self and $75 later thay took my car out. Funny thing is, they pushed it in cause it wouldn't srart, but drove it out. The hood was up when the drove it out. Odd, but what ever. I watched him pull around and the only reason I could see where my truck was, was because of the hood being raised through the high windows. I saw it stop and the hood remained up for a few minutes then shut. I got my keys and went to the truck. (I had called my wife to go get the cap/rotor/wires so they would be at the house for me.) Much to my suprise The truck wouldn't start when I got there. I went in and asked why it ran 2 minutes ago but not now. They said "Well it was too heavy to push out so we rigged to run so we could get it out" as for why it didn't drive now "I don't know, we could look at it for you" I go out and pop the hood, the coil wire is broke, in half and both ends popped off and on their respective places. I realized why my hood was up so long. I sliced that thing and almost drove over the mechanic..... I have seriously never been that pissed in my life. I got home on like 3 cylinders, but I made it and had it running like a dream in about 30 minutes.
So from that day forward, I change my cap, rotors wires every 40K or so. The truck seems to go through them like candy. I have changed them 2, soon to be 3times now and the Bosch once and soon to be new plugs.
I like My D, but hate dodge and everything about them and there customer service. I called and the dealership and basically got blown off.
...sorry about my rampaging tangent[:@]

Problem is those platinum plugs were not designed for your truck. This is especially important because you can see the problem with your wires burning out and cap because they were not designed for your application. Feedback is what is killing your ignition system. How can you swear by them with soooo many problems? Hello [

Now if you put these in your truck all that feed back is going into the ignition system all the way into your PCM. [:@]
Don't do it! If you are going to run performance you need performance to run it. The first thing you should do in my opinion is replace your ignition system with good stuff like in this post.
