In a nutshell It tunes your PCM to get more performance out of it. There are other things it can do but you buy this for the tuning capabilities over everytyhing else. Search the net for it you'll get plenty of info.

CessPool,

Goto the root of the durango forum and check the hyperprogrammer info, the features are very similar to the superchips tuner.

The only bad thing with the hyperprogrammer is that it only supports 5.2/5.9 engines, you will have to go with the superchips tuner if you have a 4.7.

I have the 5.9.

Which is better? I noticed that some of you guys run higher octane, is this chip why?

Is the difference worth $300?

Some run higher octane because the r/t requires it. Other than that you can go for the best tune with the programmer and run 93 or stick with a tune suitable for 87 octane. It's all preference and many people don't understand that the only reason to run higher octane is to offset pinging with higher compression engines. I went up to 89 myself in order to get rid of the pinging I was experiencing.

You should be good as long as your D is properly taken care of!

Go with the hyperprogrammer since it is on sale. Some people can really feel a difference in how the engine reacts before/after the reprogramming. I hope to get this programmer only to let my R/T use regular unleaded gas instead of premium gas. The gap between unlead and premium here in DFW seems to be getting wider and wider! Unreal man. Use to be between 15-20 cents, but lately, I seen it as high as 27 cents gap between the two. And you multply that by a big gas tank like the D, it really adds up!

I consider this $300 performance upgrade a good upgrade and something you can really feel the performance increase and you can tweak some settings for your D too when you make future upgrades. At this price, it is better than CAI's and other upgrades as far as performance bang for the buck.

Just a quick note...I have had a programmer on mine D for years. There are times when your truck decides it no longer likes the programmed info and it will start stalling out when you put on the brakes. This happened 3 weeks after my first install and then I went 1yr before it did it. All we had to do was back the program out wait a week or two and reprogram it again.

Interesting but you should try disconnecting the battery cable first rather than going through the hassle of removing the program and being antsy to get it back in...
