Bug deflector
Does anyone have any advice on a good looking, quality bug/rock deflector? I accidentally broke part of mine when I tried to shove it into place above the drivers side head lamp.A carwash blower was able to rip the crappy plastic off it's placement.
I'm looking for one that doesn't look like plastic. Something that almost looks like dark glass.
Anyideas? or any pics?
Here's a front pic of it my crappy rock deflector. Sorry I don't have any pics on this laptop of the Durango but at least you'll get the idea.

Have you ever considered your D to wear a LeBra?
They sell a hood piece cover that protects the same area as your bug deflector. But on my D, I bought a full covered bra to protect the entire front end! My A/C coil is still brand new as ever without all those rocks and bugs pelting the A/C coil.(most common area to get leaks after time from road debris banging up the coil). The Lebra I bought costed me about $120 bucks from NAPA auto parts. Wished they had one that gave me access to my lower driving lights, cleaning them is not easy as I have to remove the lower part of the bra to gain access to clean the lens. But the newer version of Lebra now exposes the lens instead of being behind the net.

I don't know much about bug deflectors as I've never cared for them personally, but I used to have a bra on my D. One thing you have to remember with a bra-I don't know if it's a problem with the leBra brand- they can do more harm than good. You put them on to protect from dings and dents from rocks mainly from highway driving, but on mine, there were metal clamps that held the bra on and they actually scraped away paint where they were attached and it's starting to rust there. If you get a bra, make sure it isn't rubbing anywhere.

ShadowRango,
The Lebra that I have uses plastic clips. So no worry about scratching paint.
Last of R/T's,
That was my only worry using the bra. But I wash my D frequently and everythime I do, I do wash underneath the bra and occasionally take the upper bra piece off so I can re-wax the covered area to keep it protected. Otherwise, for those that do not spend the time to do this, a Bra is not recommended as Last of R/T's commented about dirt scratching up the paint in the long run.
The good thing about my Lebra is that it has a screen covering the entire air vents on the front of the D. Prevents bugs and small debris from entering my A/C coil and radiator. I seen alot of cars with their coils beaten up pretty bad and that is where the leaks start over the years. But my coils are still in perfect condition.

Right, when I took my bra off (on the durango haha) there was a nice line where the dirt didn't get washed away because it was too big of a hassle to take the bra off every time I washed the vehicle. I think mine was also starting to rip and flap around quite a bit on the highway. They can help if you take care of them, but if you aren't on the highway a lot, I'd say skip the bra (and the bug deflector).
I had a bra on my previous BMW 7 series and it made a fine line where the bra ends. I figured it must have been flapping around during highway driving and the constant minute slapping caused that little blemish. Thus I would never consider using a bra. Cleaning was a bitch. I had to do it weekly to keep dust and debris from accumulating underneath.
I would go with a 3M Clear bra but only on a brand new car or one with a newly painted/retouched front end.
But considering that the city doesn't clean the highways of rocks, pebbles and other debris, I need the rock deflector to protect my windshield. Down here I see so many cracked windshields, even on newer cars.

I was wiping my windshield down the other day and noticed quite a few tiny chips. Who know how long they've been there but hopefully they stay the way they are sincethey is barely more than a scratch.
That's what I'm afraid of. I see so many cars with huge cracks in their windshields and wonder.. WTF?? I've never seen this when I was in New Hampshire or in any other place for that matter.
One day I helped a lady change her tire on the side of the highway and I noticed that there were so many little rocks, pebbles, glass, and other debris scattered along the highway. And ever since I moved to southern Texas (McAllen), I've never seen a road sweeper. I don't think they exist here.
Thats when it occured to me that maybe this is the cause of all these cracked windshields. Good thing nothing has happened to mine, maybe the rock deflector had something to do with it? But anyway, I want to replace mine with a better looking, good quality piece.
Does anyone have any pics or their trucks sporting one?

I also have a Mazda car bra on my old car. It as well left a line on the ends. Doesn't look nice but still tolerable. At least it prevents the front part ofthe vehicle from being tainted with dirtlike mud splatter.
