99 Durango codeP0743
I have a 99 durango that somtimes seems to be stuck in a high gear, when I pull out I can put it on the floor and it will slowly gain speed kind of like taking off in to high of a gear in a manaual shift.I pulled the code and it gives 0743=torque converter clutch soleniod/trans relay circuits=an open or shorted condition detected in the torque converter part throttle unlock solenoid control circuit (3 speed auto RH trans. only)thats what is listed in my haynes manual, has anyone had a similar problem or any thoughts on this. what about cost
Ok Im pretty sure that its getting stuck in third because I can manualy shift from drive into second and you can feel it change gears and pick up power then shift back to drive so the trans seems to work fine when I work it manualy just seems to me that somthing is not telling it to do what its suppost to do when its suppost to do it.

I found out from the lot that I bought it from that the trans was rebuilt back in feb. of this year and is under warrinty so I took it to the shop that did the work they looked at it and said that it was a problem with the computer could this be, or them just not wanting to cover it?Sometimes it will shift fine by its self and then it just stays in high gear and will not down shift.I can get a new computer from the dealer for $500 or a used one for $150 but I really don't want to spend the money if thats not the problem the guy at the car lot said that he would give me the computer out of a jeep that was a 4x4 and has the 5.2 the same as my D but will this work he said that all I need was to get it flashed and it would work but I'm not to sure about it.Any help would be great
Yes it would have to be flashed but it doesn't matter because iot isn't the PCM it really sounds like the TC, don't let them take you on this. They'd probably charge you for the PCM to make some of the money they're about to lose when they swap out the TC while you aren't around...
