4WD Switch No lights?? No work?
Hello, I have a 01 Durango and I have tried to sell my truck but I recently found out that the 4WD doesn't engage. The switch does notlight up like before and I have tried a friends switch that works in his 01 Dakota but it didn't light upor engage in mine. What would cause this to happpen? Is there a fuse for the power source to the switch that I am unaware of? Please help since I have read almost all forums and there are a lot of the same issues but no one seems to have solutions. I am an electrician and would like to try to fix this myself without paying an arm and a leg since I just paid one to fill up the tank. Thanks all!!!
I have the same problem with the light not going on when 4X4 is engaged. It appears that the light is just burned out in the dash and it is not worth my effort to fix it. The light is only a visual reminder that 4X4 is engaged, and the transfer case is what controls the action of 4X4. To prove that your 4X4 engages you can take it on a gravel road and from a complete stop floor it; rocks should be kicked up be the front tires. Another way is to be in a parking lot driving slowly and engage 4X4 and make a turn, you should feel some resistance when turning, Turn in the opposite direction and while turning then disengage 4X$ and you should feel the resistance go away. Since you are selling the truck it might be worth your while to replace the bulb.
Thanks for the reply however I have tried it a dozen times and it never engages when I turn it to 4lo or 4hi and I even took out the switch and checked the lamps inside and they all are fine. Still looking for answers as to what may power the switch...
Does anyone have any suggestions with this problem? Winter is coming and would like to get 4wd working.
Also does anyone know that the "N" reset button does on the switch?
Thanks!

Could be the many things, but it sounds like somewhere a fuse is blown and power is not getting where it should be. Check your owners manual, and make sure any fuse related to the 4x4 system is ok.
From there, try a battery disconnect reset which might cure the issue. If not, then the TCCM transfer case control module, or the shift motor could be at fault.
In any case, this would be a good time to service your t case (which should occur every 30k) to see if you get any metal or other pieces parts coming out.
BTW, re the N position. This is for towing behind an RV, or just being towed in general. With the T case in N, the D will roll irrespective of the tranny selector as the t case mechanically disconnnects from the transmission.
Good luck Don

I know that this post is old but I had the same problem and it is your transfer case control module located under the lower panel of the dash just to the right of the stearing column (a blue box). The dealership will charge ~ $360 for the part and $40 for installation. I bought one at a junk yard for $100 and put it on myself.
