Please Help! Suspesion Woes...
On my 2000 SLT with 75K on it, I started experiencing a very rough ride over washboard streets.
So I went and replaced the shocks all around with Monroe Reflex.
The ride is much better and smoother over all, but the washboard streets are still a problem.
There is a severe rattling/clunking noise coming mostly from the rear and the truck is all over the road (fish tailing).
I do not have the stability I had before when newer.
I looked under as I was replacing the struts but did not see anything out of the ordinary.
Any ideas what I should be looking at?
Thanks!

check your spare tire.....go into the compartment under the rear deck, and just snug up the rear tire against the floor by turning the crank a little tighter. Mine was a little loose against the floor boards, andover speed bumps and bumpy corners there was a loud clunking noise.
Thank you for the reply. The tire is pretty snug since I took it off to change the struts.
I can handle the noise. What bothers me a lot is being all over the road on those kinds of roads.

It doesn't feel stiff. I'd say the Monroes are a bit softer ride the OEM, which is nice since I do 100% HWY driving. The washboard streets seem to throw the D side to side and a bit up/down but soft up/down. If that makes sense.
Very weird feeling. Definitively not like when it was new. When new, it felt very firm and stable.
I wonder what else can I change to get some of that stable feel back.
Thanks.

Probably just those lousy shocks not taking their hits, try some bilsteins, they may be stiff but they can take a lot of abuse and handle on and offroad like a champ.
It may be the tires that are defective? Maybe out of balance? I am using monroe reflexes and I think they are a little stiffer ride than OEM. Then again, I been riding on busted oem shocks for a long time and did not notice until I did a inspection underneath and both rear shocks the fluid leaked out already. After replacing them with reflexes, the handling improved alot specially the rear end. But I did noticed that with my original goodyears on my D, when they are worn down to a certain point, they started to ride a little rough. I can feel it it in the steering wheel. Also, the tire noise started to get louder as the tread is nearly worn out. As soon as I replaced them with BFG's, the rough ride and noise all disappeared.
Another thing to look for as far as the rattling in the back. check your leaf springs. Make sure they did not come loose for some reason???
