Default Spark Plug Question

A bit back had a slight miss on the '99 Durango 5.2. I ddin't have the money for full tune-up so I pulled the plug and found that the Champions were 30,000 miles old and the gaps were almost to .070 instead .040. So i posted and it was recommended to stay away from Bosch Platniumss, and go with Champions Truck/SUV. Problem couldn't find any that weekened. So i put in Champion Platniums. Ran fine for about two weeks went on a trip came back and instead of the miss at higher speeds and every so often it was a lot of misses at above thirty mph. Are any Platniumsjust bad period for our Durangos? or should I replace wires, cap and rotor. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks, I thought that might be the case. For starting purposes, going to use reg. Champions. I'll post back tomorrow evening.

I've ran bosch platinum +4 spark plugs in my D for over a year now, never had any problems. I'm going to try out the autolite 3923's onthe 5.9 when I put it in next week and then switch back to the platinums and see if it makes a difference. And it wouldn't hurt to change your cap/rotor and install a good set of plug wires such as taylor or msd.

Get the Champion iridium plugs. Best champion truck plug out there. They have a very high resistance to fowling because of their needle sharp hard tip. After I replaced my stock champion plugs for the iridium version, my cold start idle and just idle at normal is so smooth, you can set an egg on the engine and it won't roll off! Engine runs so much better when you go WOT too!

These plugs are pretty expensive but I think these plugs are garuanteed to go 100k before replacment.

I need a colder plug because I raised the compression to about 10:1 and it's only 8:9:1 stock.(cam, ported heads/intake,msd ignition, etc.) I keep hearing that the autolite 3923's are pretty good. Would I be better off getting the champion iridium plugs?

yep go autolites. no question better than champion. also, whether or not you run platinum, iridium, or copper core will make no difference except the more expensive plugs will last longer. change your wires, cap, and rotor along with your plugs.

This is incorrect. Go ahead and try these out for yourself before you tell everyone to run them. We have had major trouble in the past and many user's can confirm these findings.

im running them right now and the 5.9 runs mint. Think about it. All the damn plug does is spark. Thats it. I've sold and installed platinums and iridiums on many dodge engines without a single problem. Most of the time a problem occurs it is due to the person installing it, like breakingthe tip on the plug..these precious metal plugs are very fragile.
