Ignition problems
I have a 99 Durango with a 5.9. A couple months ago it just stopped running. It would turn over until the battery dies, but it wouldn't start. I pulled one of the plugs, and it looked all carboned up, like it wasn't firing. I slipped it back in the boot, and while holding the gnd electrode against the manifold, I had a friend crank it. There was no spark. The cap and rotor are less than 6 mos old, so I figured they were okay.To start easy I pulled the coild and ohmed across the primary. It read dead short. I got a new coild and put it on, and the truck started and ran well for about 15-20 minutes. Then it just died, and wouldn't start, just like before. I ohmed the coil primary again, and it was a dead short again. It looks like something is taking out the coil.
Can anyone give me some ideas were to look? Could the ignition system supplying the voltage to the coil be over supplying and killing it?
I did a search, and got a bunch of stuff about the suspension coils, but ...
Thanks in advance.
