Default Vibration at 70mph

Hey Folks,
I have a 2000 SLT+ 4.7. At about 70 mph, the D starts to vibrate until it gets to about 75. Over 75, I'm good. Has anyone had this experience? Any ideas what the cause could be?

Sounds like you may have a tire out of balance. You could try rotating and see if vibe goes away or changes.

Most places, including stealerships,do not balace the tires when they rotate the tires. If yor tires were balanced you should see new weights on the sides or inside of the rims. If you don't see new weights than they were only rotated. If they were balanced than it is the beginning of wheel bearing failure. To find out which wheel bearing is giving out jack up the front wheel and feel if there is top to bottom wobble. There should not be any movement.

Figured out the problem - bad tire. Thankfully, it was still under warranty. After the mechanic balanced it, it would take about a day to go out of balance again. Needless to say, not gonna go with Goodyears again.

My 2002 SLT 4X2 has theexact same vibration problem, it usually starts at about 67 and diminishes at around 72. I was thinking about taking it back to the place where I bought itsfirst replacement set tires after 50k original miles. I bought some Firestone Destination LE's, pretty sturdy tires they sure added stability to the truck versus those damn Goodyear Eagles that it came with. To make the suspension even tighter I added a complete set of Rancho RS5000 shocks. The tire and shocks combination made a world of difference. No more swaying suspension like it had with the other tires and factory shocks.

I just read Lianimal's rebuttal, I suppose I better take it back to get the tires checked out. Just in case!

My problem could have easily been balanced away had the difference not been so severe. I kick myself now for not going with Michelins (my original idea) when I got rid of the original Wranglers. I have GY Forteras on it now. All and all they've been good - great in rain and snow for city driving. I guess I shouldn't complain too much.
