Another quick and easy fix. Just fixed mine. When I pulled the old one out it was in two pieces. Looked like an explosion. Plugged in new one and viola', no annoying brake and abs light on the dash. Thanks for all the insight

Guys,

I just want to say thanks for the insight since my dakota has had the lights on and no speedo for about a year. Nobody could tell me what the deal was other than a sensor bad maybe.

My check engine light finally came on and gave out a code. I immediately changed the sensor in the tranny but to no avail. So now i know the one in the rear could be the culprit to which has driven me crazy. And also if i just drive the truck shouldnt the computer be able to reset itself.

Oh yea you guys were much more help than the guys over at the dakota forum-lol

Y-Thank-U for the insight

Well, both forums basically refer to the same truck. Durango is nothing more than a dressed up Dakota!

Now I have a question, I have a 2000 Durango. Tranny seems not to shift like it wants to. When I really give it gas, the tranny just don't want to down shift unless I nail the gas. Sometimes when I just gradually accelerate, seems like I am pulling something heavy. I suspect possible front/rear or both sensors. Went to autozone and other places and for the 2000 and newer models, these parts do not exist? But on 98-99 models, the parts are available. Can anyone confirm if the 2000 and newer models did away with the speed sensors or they have a different type of sensor in another location?

Thank God for the internet and for each of your postings! I have a 2000 Ram 1500 that has given me nothing but trouble since 2 months after I bought it last summer. First the instrument cluster died but revived twice when it was removed and replaced by the dealer. They told me it needed replacing, but for $750 bucks with no guarantee that was the problem, I figured I'd deal with the intermittent lights. The brakes were super sensitive and would lock up which made me suspect ABS. About a month ago, the speedometer stopped working below 55mph, , transmission would rev into 2500 rpm range and hold there forever before shifting, ABS light, brake light, and eventually engine light illuminated. Your forum confirmed my suspicions about the rear speed sensor. The hardest part of the fix was finding the replacement in Del Rio Tx. The dealer had it in stock, but I'd hoped to save a few bucks and checked the local parts stores which only had the output (tranny) sensor. $46 bucks for the differential sensor and the problem was solved. Brakes are better and contrary to one posting, disconnecting the battery actually removed the check engine light. By the way, testing the sensor is easy. Using a multimeter with ohms set to Rx1, a good sensor will read near 0 ohms (good continuity) Infinite ohms indicates a bad coil in the sensor. Hope this helps and thanks again for all your postings.
