Default Change to Synthetic?

99 Durango, 5.2 4X4, I am thinking about changing to syn from Castrol. D has 124,000 on her. My wifes daily, she loves it. My dreams of getting it are gone.
LSS should I change to syn or stay?
What are the risk?
Proper steps to follow.

Oh should state that at bought used w/53,000 and at 92,000 had oil pump replaced, sending unit, and lower half rebuilt, Orig. owner didn't take care ofthe D (sludge)and I didn't have the sense to have a mech look at the D b4 purchase. I was just happy my wife didn't want a mini-van.

I am somewhat mechanically knowledgeable. Have helped brother in-law rebuild a couple of motors. GM 4.3, 454, and Dodge minivan 1.9?

I tried a search didn't find anything concrete.

It won't hurt a thing to switch to synthetic (except yourwallet). I have personally switched several vehicles to synthetic at higher mileage. Might want to look into some Auto-RX before you make the switch just to clean everything out.

Mobil 1 states that with thier synthetic there is no need to flush your system before switching from conventional.

The only thing is that if you are about to leak anywhere it will leak, the synthetic can squeeze through much tighter holes. Probably not a bad idea though anyway, that way you will get those problems (if any) squared away.

I swapped my 2000 ram with 125k on it to mobil 1 and never had a problem with leaking. cleans the motor up on the inside as well. what i'd suggest is pouring in about 16 oz of marvel mystery oil about 1000 miles before switching. this will help clean the inside up before you move over to the good stuff. I'd also recommend mobil 1, used it for years and never had an internal failure.

Alrigth sounds like some mystery oil 1,000 miles later mobil1 and filter. I'm even going to take on the fun of putting in the CAI in the upper Post Area. See if the wife notices.

Thank you to all
