Default Wont Go into Park???

OkO have a 02 Durango R/T 5.9 thatwont shift into park on the dash atleast. If you count the gearsit feel like it is in there but when I let off the brake it rolls like its not in any gear.? And on the dash the shift marker wont go past reverse?.. I can still take the key out butwhen I put the key back in Icant start it without havingto put it into neutral? And it also keeps going in and out of four wheel lock. Does anyone have any idea's?

Thanks,

You may need to take to to a pro to look at it, otherwise, you can check the shift linkages to the tranny to make sure nothing fell out of place if you know what to look for?

sounds like the linkage needs to be adjusted,BUT what caused the linkage to be so far out? take a look at the trans mount see if it needs to be replaced that could cause your otherproblem of jumping out of 4 high lock.

check the linkage @ the tranny... your adjuster bolt may have come loose causing your problem. you might want to download the manual to see how it is adjusted.

Ok. thanks for the help and advice. I put it on a friends rack and we couldnt find any adjustment and the mount looked fine. So I took it to the dealer today and this is what they said, " parking linkage jambed internal of trans. removed the pan and found the front band strut fell out and jambed park linkage due to loose / worn front band".... They want to do a transmission overhaul with a torque converter overhall kit, new front band, filter and fluid. Est. $2343.00 with tax. Anyone think this is a good thing or deal? I put 200 miles on it yesterday with no problem except for it not going into park. If you guys think this is not a good deal and know of a shop near Milwaukee or I can drive it almost anywhere I think within a 200 to 300 mile radius of here to have it done. I just have a hard trusting a shop due to being screwed before. I am glad the wifes Cooper is under warranty. LOL

Thanks Again,

that is not too bad... I had a similar repair option a couple of months back... front band shot, 1800 bux to fix it w/o a new converter. If you shop around at a few tranny shops I'll bet you can get it down under 2k... BTW... I opted to rebuild mine 100% with a heavy duty kit & torque converter. $3800.

02RT:

Tranniesare not my strong suit, but that price does not sound too bad as long as you get a good warranty to go with it. Just for kicks though,I would get a second opinion just to make sure it needs what they say.

How many miles on your D, and have you had the trans serviced every 30k???

Don
