Ah, the question!
I had a 16' utility trailer loaded with 33 bags sacrete(2640lbs), 33 fence panals(apx 3300lbs)plus a few other essentials(apx 300lbs)=6060lbs.(I have pics)My 99 318 with tow pkg pulled it with no problem It was acually impressive..
I reciently bought a TT weighing GVW 4000lbs and it won't pull it for crap. It has to be the wind drag. It gets up to 50-55mph and has trouoble going any faster. IMO, if I can't pull 65-70mph, it ain't happining.
I had to sell the D this w/e and bought a F250. Haven't hooked up the TT yet, but should do well.

I posted here about the same thing. Before anyone says that I contradicted myself, I counted those panel yesterday and it is 33. I forgot to add in the 33 poles (660lbs) bringing the total to 6720lbs.
BTW I have two monroe sensitrac front shocks new in box for free if anyone wants them. They were lifetime warrantyreplacement and I went with Bilstien. Just pay shipping or if in DFW area, come pick up.
