I googled the 904 and it looks like it is a 3 speed as well.

Hey guys I was informed that a 727 tranny would bolt right up to my D with minimal issues
You were informed wrong. The PCM controls both the engine and transmission, and the inputs from one determine how the PCM willcontrol the other. It might run, but performance and fuel economy will go down the toilet.

I believe the 904 has OD
904 is 3 speed. The A500 is the overdrive version of the baby TF.

Hey guys I was informed that a 727 tranny would bolt right up to my D with minimal issues and the guy that told me (a gearhead in my diesel classes) knows someone that has a built 727 for $200. Should I jump?
Why? your tranny should be able to handle anything you throw at it for now, fresh rebuild (within the last year IIRC), have you put an oversized cooler on it yet? In the Jeep GC I had there was a problem when I 1st bought it, had it rebuilt and maintained and never had an issue with it in the 95k miles I put on it before I hit the deer. My 2000 ram, never had an issue on it either (other than the 2 sensors that went bad).

notice I didnt bring up the '05... ahem lol.

It would be really great if they made trannies to be easily interchanged! I would love to upgrade to a 5 speed or better!

spidaman over in the dak section had a 727 in his R/T. im pretty sure he bought it like that though. but he just wrapped it around a tree acouple weeks ago and wrote it off. I dont know how much work they are to put in. but when they are built right, they are pretty much bullet proof.
awww man talkin about me ehhh?

lol well my 727 had overdrive?

and it was the most amazing thing i owned on the truck

it had a stage 2 shift kit on it and its didnt shift till 3 grand and launched like no other

i even accidently went from reverse to drive when i was doin like 15 in reverse.. meant neutral to rev it. revved it from reverse to drive and didnt even flinch. juss chirped the tires and left 100 ft of tread
