Default Anybody tried a HyperTech Chip?

I'm considering a power enhancing electronic chip for my 99 5.9 Durango 4x4. I had to have the PCM rplaced a year ago or so, and it has run like crap ever since. My understanding is that the replacement PCMs are programmed w/ tougher emissions, etc. than originals thus the reduction in power I'm experiencing.

I'm hoping a Chip may "free" things up again. I'm not trying to get a race machine out of it, just back to my 5.9 performance.

Appreciate the thoughts/help

had one on my 2000 QC 4x4 Ram w/5.9 motor... you wont regret it...

your best bets for that motor are a 52mm fastman TB, K&N CAI, gibson headers and a good cat back exhaust in addition to the Hypertech... it'll wake it up nicely. as for mileage... at the end, I was getting 13.5~14.5 mpg out of mine with 34" tires on it with 4.11's.

I hope you are really referring to the Hypertech programmer and not a chip? I do not recall Hypertech having a chip tho.

I would not recommend using a piggy back type chip as you will only get short term benefits from it. The PCM will eventually readjust itself to the piggyback chip and you are back to square one. But a programmer will re-program the PCM entirely. I am using the Hypertech programmer and it works wonders for me. Mainly to pay less at the pump since my R/T requires premium fuel, now I can use regular fuel and the performance is still better than the OEM premium fuel settings.

Better to explain that then in the post. I would never recommend a chip.

I know you don't want a "race machine" but I would get your computer reflashed by B&G,hughes engines, krcperformance or a sct flash instead of a hypertech. I wasted $$ on a hypertech before.I personally dont think it's worth the money compared to getting your ecu reflashed by a performance company.(cost pretty muchthe same!)

True. A flash is second to none.

I have to give the programmers some good points over a permanent flash and that's the ability to make changes on the fly such as switching from regular to premium fuel and vice versa, recalibrate the speedo when you change tire sizes etc.

So the programmers do have some good points in this respect. Otherwise, if you only going to make the change once and leave it at that, then a flash is the best way to go and not have to reprogram it again.

I agree... sometimes it is necessary to take a step back if there is a problem that pops up... had that happen to me with a pinging issue which turned out to be a worn cap & rotor (non mopar, might have been accell iirc)
