Default Tranny oil leaking

I have tranny oil leaking from around the tranny and the transfer case, its most likely due to the seals.

I was wondering how much it would cost to replace those seals, if anyone has done it before. (because taking it to a dealer or something seems the route I would go, since it may be hard to do all that without having a lift).

Thanks.

Which seal are we talking about? If it needs the one between t-case and tranny, about 2 hours labor + parts. IOW, a couple hundred bucks.

KMK:

As 66D says, there are several different seals that might be involved. Could be tranny front seal or rear. Also, T case has both frontand rear seal.

Although I to think that it SHOULD only be a couple hundred bucks at the most, my local dealer wanted $600 just to remove my part time t case and install my full time unit.

Best course is to get it diagnosed as best you can, then go from there. In any case, the part will likely be a very small part of the total repair cost.

Which tranny (auto/manual). Also where you see the fluid does not mean thats where the leak is. The fluid could just be collecting there from air flow.

I only mention this because my 2000 Durango (auto trans) had quite a bit of fluid around the tranny and xfer case. My pan bolts were a little loose. Not wobbly lose obviously but no longer fully torqued. I cleaned up the area really good, retorqued the pan bolts and was good to go. No leaks anywhere else. It just looked that way from all of the fluid.

Just a thought.
