First off are you sure its the lifters, or an exhaust leak?

for noisy lifters make sure you have enouh oil , or try using a different viscosity oil (osmething more suited for colder temps).

a more expensive fix is an engine pre-luber. It works the same way as a fuel pump basically. It primes the whole engine with oil when the key is in the ON position in a few seconds, preventing dry startups.

I noticed the same thing on my 4.7 recently. Just changed over to Mobil 1 real recent. Not sure if its related or not. I don't recall hearing it prior. Haven't seen any real hard core answers on this one.

Guys:

I have run Mobil 1 5w 30 in my D for 4 years now. No weird noises here. Also, no offense but I would not put Pennzoil in my lawnmower let alone a 20 k vehicle.

Sounds more like the exhaust leak that several folks have experienced with the 4.7 when the manifold bolts break.

BMW, Mercedes Benz, Cadillac, and the makers of the Corvette and Viper useM1 for a reason.

I'm gonna replace the filter see if I got a bad one, seems like the oil pressure takes a bit to get where it needs to be. Once its warmed runs like a champ with steady pressure. Am I wrong in thinking the oil pressure should be there almost immediately after start up.

Heimer:

The 4.7 engine is weird that way. When I first bought mine, right away I noticed that the oil guage would run up to 1/4 scale, then a second or so later head on up to ~3/4 scale.I had much discussion with my dealer aout this, and we also started up a new 4.7 sitting on the lot. Same thing.

I must say this is the 1st engine I have seen in my 30 years of auto enthusiasm that operates this way by design. As long as it works and runs without problems, "that does not befront me none!"
