Default tranny

hey guys, I have a 2000 4.7L D and I was wondering if anyone has ever put a manual tranny on theirs, or if anyone knows what kind of tranny would work.

Look for a 4.7 Dak at a local junkyard/pick n' pull, I want toslap an NV4500 in mine but it is going to require a bit of work. Your tranny setup will be a lot easier to get your hands on as the clutch pedal and linkage is designed around the Dakota where my tranny is designed around a much larger Ram and will probably require a bit more modifications.

Hey Mean, even if you were to strip out a Dak w/ 5.9 and 5spd, you still have heavy modification to get it to fit?

I have never put two and two together about D's and Daks being essentially the same. I've never forgotten that when it comes to body, suspension, interior, engine, rear end, but somehow i didn't realize that the tranny would be interchangeable. I can't believe I've had a brain fart for so long. Man do i feel stupid.

how would the dak tranny live up to the extra weight of the D? D weighs like 800lbs more i think.

btw, i'm still in awe from my massive brain fart.....

so are you saying that I can just find a 2000 4.7L dakotay and take the tranny from it and just bolt it on and the modifications would be doing the clutch and so on or is there actually modifications needed to make it fit?

Ok guys I think you got him confused. His question was about a 4.7L not a 5.9L.

Two answer your question, You could install a Dakota manual but not with modifications as well as computer problems. Is this something you are ready to do or exploring?

It would require a PCM reprogram obviouslyor possibly a new pcm. I was saying with the 4.7 the swap would be easier than my 5.9. Dak's did not offer a manual tranny on the 5.9, only the 3.9, 4.7, and 5.2.

Nope, there never was a manual R/T from the factory. I have a few friends who converted their trucks to 6-speeds for big bucks, but Keisler doesn't offer the kit anymore due to tech problems & relatively slow sales.
