Default mileage/stalling

hi all, The other day the battery died on my D so I jumped it and once I got it running it would stall unless I was on the throttle. I'm guessing this is just because of the battery but not sure. Also recently my gas mileage has been around 11.5 when it is normally at 14mpg. Any ideas why this could be happening??

Thanks in advance for any help

Martel:

How old is your D, how many miles, and how old is the battery???

Our D;s are well known for these symptoms when the battery is on the way out.

Have you done a tune-up lately? Maybe run some Seafoam through the motor.

Might help you gain a little of the MPG back.

However, if you live in a colder region, I hear the Winter Blend gas is kind of bad this year. People losing 3-6MPG.

Well considering it was -2F this morning I guess you could say i live in a could area. Do you know if the higher octane fuels are any better this winter?

Nah, Winter is just worst mileage. I wouldn't waste the extra cash on higher Octane.

At 140K, you might be due for a tune up as well. But, I would focus on tha battery first. If it is 4 years old or more,I would replace it anyway. My money is on the battery.
