Default 99 Hub Assembly question..

Hi all,

I've had a nice grinding noise in the front at low speeds (between 5km/h and 40km/h) since I bought my 99 Durango about 1 month ago.

I had it into a shop and they tell me I have 2 hub bearings out. I've been doing my own research (since they want over $800 to fix each) and have found a hub assembly online at:

http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPage...+-+Front+Wheel

Now, I don't have front wheel ABS, but I do have AWD, so this seems the right part. My question is, do I need anything else? I mean, this is the hub assembly, but does it contain a bearing?

I am driving the truck an hour away to my parents place to do the work and would feel a bit odd if I put it up on stands and took everything apart to find out I missed something and need more parts for the fix..

All answers appreciated!

She looks about right, bearing included. Other than some tools and multipurpose grease your all set.

( Since you have to take off brakes, be a good time to replace if needed. Get a book too P)

Yeah i agree also, $800 per side is crazy. I could replace all my ball joints, control arms, shocks and hubs for cheaper than that.

I live in Canada, and got my new hub for 120 out the door. I didn't have time to do it myself, but took it to an alignment shop to get my alignment done at the same time. Alignment ran 45, and he charged me 75 for the install of the new hub. Its not that hard to do. I helped out so as to learn what needed to be done, and the only tools you need is a breaker bar, and a big hammer. The reason for the hammer is to push out the axle from the hub. Mine needed some "persuasion", as it had rusted into place. The whole assembly is only held on by 3 bolts, and while you're there, check out your brakes too, as they have to come off the knuckle, and no sense in re-installing, only to take it apart again.

even $800 for both sides is a rip off. Parts = $250 max and onehour per side is sufficant. This is about $400-$500 job with shop supply's and tax.

I'm new here, so this may not be the appropriate thing to do. I have a hub for my 99 D that is a non-anti-lock hub, but my D is 4 wheel antilock. I was desperate for a fix, and bought it until I could afford the right one. It has about 400 miles on it. If it is the right part, you can have it for 50.00 plus shipping. It is a drivers side hub for a 99 D with a 5.2 engine, rear wheel Anti-lock only. I bought the part at Advanced Auto parts. I know you don't know me, but thiswould save you a bundle of cash, since I am putting the correct hub on mine this weekend.

For anyone that read my post about my electrical issues, the cost to replace the PCM was 688.00. I should have her back tomorrow. Damn Durangos.

Other than posting his sale in the wrong place [&:], to you that are confused about the hub what he is talking about is the hub he has is for a vehicle without 4wheel ABS

Not actually placing it for sale, just trying to help a guy out. I just got done pouring 1200.00 into our POS, and if I canhelp one guy not feel the wrath of the repairs of these things, I would like to. Oh yeah, last year it was a 1400.00 tranny.
