2000 Durango Blower Motor Resistor
Someone please give me a clue where to locate and or replace the blower motor resistor assembly. From what I have gathered from earlier models, it is somewhere above the passengers foot area, am I right and how do I get to it? Any help would be appreciated.
Try this site. This is on a 2001 should be the same. http://www.gtrippleb.com/
You will need a 7mm or 8mm socket with a u-joint extension in order to access the 2 screws to remove the resistor panel. To find it, on the 2001's, 2000's I did not do any, it should be directly underneath the passenger side glove box. So if you look directly up from underneath the passenger floor, you should see the long skiny rectangular wiring harness with one 7mm-8mm screw on each end. The part can only be ordered from the dealer if I remember correctly. The part runs around $13-$17 bucks.
If your switch ( ****) on the head unit that controls the front fans quits working. It is most likely the resistor to the blower motor. Mine when out and my front control for the rear still worked. I currently have the part in my garage and haven't installed it yet. I am just hoping from what I hear on these boards that this is the problem. I jimmy rigged a new switch meanwhile to the blower so that I get full blower fan speed by bypassing the control ****. Works fine but when the heat/AC is on it only blows at max power. I'll re post when I install the resistor. Too cold out now to do nightime maintainance.
I finally changed my resistor. Everything works perfect now ( well at least the bower speed switch). Tight squeeze with a 8mm I had to move some vent tubes around in order to get to the far screw. After that I took just a few minutes to get it done. Thanks to this I forum I saved a ton of cash. I was about to by a whole new control head unit. Thanks for all the info
The blower motor resistor is under the front cowl up in an access hole. Basically, you have to remove the windshield wipers and cowl. The blower motor resistor is hard to get to since it is way up in the access hole. An 8mm or 9mm socket is require for the screws. I read in the Haynes manual for 1999 models that it can be accessed by removing the entire dash but that is not what I did to replace mine. Getting the new resistor in there and screwed on was a pain in the ... By the way, do you happen to now where the blower motor ground is? My blower stops running sometimes but if I tap it it kicks right on. Suggestions?

I just changed the blower motor resistor pack on a 2003 Durango. Piece of cake. Easily accessible, 2 - 8mm screws. Out and back in, in a couple of minutes. My heater didn't work at all, but does now.
