5.9 towing 4k lbs.
Hey there,
I've got a 99 D 5.9L, 5sp TCase, uncertain of gear ratio. I tow my 4k lb Travel Trailer and was wondering how others felt their D pulled similar or heavier loads? I feel like I have the power to muscle up the hills in Northern Cali but feel like I'm really putting a beating on my engine. I try not to rev past 3k rpms. How high do you run your RPM's?
Does anyone know what the power curve on the 5.9's is? Where do I generate the most torque and horsepower?
Thanks!

The 5.9 engine reaches it peak hp/torque range at 3k rpms. At least that is the sweet spot for me and that is where I feel the power.
also, your Tcase is a 5 speed??? It should only be a 4 speed. 5 Speed autos are only available starting year 2000 models with the 4.7 engine package.

Also, what rear diff ratio do you have. Should be sticker in glove box to tell you that.
