Default Thumping at Idle

Hello, new to this forum and have a quick question. At idle, I have a thumping sound from under the hood at idle. We are talking about a 98 durango 5.9. I have narrowed it down to the evap purge solenoid? On the fire wall, inbetween the brake booster and distributor cap there is an evap component of sorts and for every thump there is a click. Is this a sign of the component going bad, or is there something else causing it to behave like this? There is also a service port on it, how do I service it? Do I service it? Thx

Sorry for the long bump... but did you ever figure it out. I seem to be having the same issues on my 07' dakota.

You should probably go to the Dakota section, the 1st gen Durango and 07 Dakota are 2 totally different vehicles :-)
