hi im new to the site and i have a question. the other night in the snow i was pulling out of a street onto a 4lane road and ended up fishtailing and sliding my right rear wheel into a curb. the axle shaft broke clean by the studs and the out drum cover is still bolted to the rim. anyways i have a 98' durango slt (5.2l,4wd,44re trans) (12bolt rear axle) and im wondering what other rear axles(and what trucks they are in)will work as a direct swap. thanks for the help!

 

a rear axle from a Durango 1998-2003 should be a direct replacement (2003 had disk brake) and Dakota 1996 (or 1997) - 2003 I believe..

You have to know if your rearend has a 8.25 or 9.25 ring gear.. Also keeping in mind what your gear ratio and the donor ratio are... yours is most likely 3.55:1, but check your owner manual or glovebox for confirmation
