short ram air intake ?
i have the stock air box with stock air filter on my 2001 dodge durango 4.7l and its time to replace that stuff. theres the regular tube that goes from the box into the throttle body. but then theirs like this little plastic black tubing that connects to the side of the air box and leads to somewhere else its to the left of the big tube andit also sucks in air i presumebut idk where that tubeleads to any one have a guess or know what im talking about/? if i get a new air intake kit will that tube connect to the new kit or do i remove it

I cannot remember what the airbox looks like for the 4.7, but I was able to build a homebrew ram air intake and keep all my existing oem air plumbing. Check it out in the Faq section. I have pics of the setup as well. Only cost you a few bucks from home depot.
I plan on doing the DIY ram air, however I don't want that stupid air resonator as part of the air intake... And I'm not a fan of that ribbed plastic intake piping, too much turbulence in my mind..
I got my Summitracing catalogue in the mail today, and while i was reading in the office, i saw an add for Airaid Jr kits.. Its basicallly piece of tube that connects the throttle body to the stock air box.. it gets rid of that gay air silencer and all the ribbed hoses...
I'll probably look into get this and then doing MeanGreens DIY to bring colder air from the front bumber up to the stock airbox
anyways here is the page on summit racing

I personallythink the stock bow will keep the intake air colder than Airaids "heat shield", but in no way have i conducted any tests to back my opinion.. any thoughts?

You can't just get rid of the ventalation tube Tom.
Many times the pictures that you see on manufactures web sites are not the real thing.
Defenitly plow through the front end for the cold air tho. I've had it for years.

I wasn't talking about getting rid of the crank case breather... Iwant to get rid of the factory intake pipes that are rubber and flexible, they are too restrictive IMO, especially with that plastic resonator on top.. I'll be keeping all the "extra" piping though... like that return line that goes into the intake....
was Ityour DIY writeup that I read with the flex pipe running from the bumper to the airbox?? I'mgoing to do that... I was just wondering if it was worth the extra $200 to get the full CAI or just the Jr kit? The Jr kit uses the stock box so its literally just taking off the resonator and 4 inch flex hose and replacing it with the one piece plastic pipe from Airaid...

Maybe.
I will post a picture of what I did. There was no parts involved. Ya you could probably do better with less restriction but dude I don't think you need it. Look at all I've done and it works fine.
