Higher octane only burns slower and more adequate. The sensors pick this up and change the timing and also injection, and air to make up the difference.

I would just run 87 octane unless pulling where the more consistent burn is needed.

Mileage might improve a little due to the more consistent bun but I don't think you will get any more bang for the buck when it comes to gas prices.
Hydrashocker is absolutley correct, it does give a slower more consistent burn. But in todays vehicles you will not notice a difference, but in a carburator application you will see a difference. It's actually more effcient to burn 87 octane in today's computer tuned vehicles, unless you have major modifications to the engine (supercharger/turbo, or a big cam...etc).
Oh where I am located I'm paying $1.18 per litre, that's about $4.46 a gallon. It really sucks because I work for a oil refinery and make the sh*t everyday!!! Ah the joys of being a maritimer in Canada !!

I'm about to make a 2700 miles round trip with the D to pick up some equipment. That means I'll be dragging an empty trailer 2/3 of the way and bringing back a stump grinder weighing in at 4300 lbs for the last 1/3 of the trip.

My fastman tranny showed up at my local tranny shop yesterday and should be good to go in a couple of days.

Almost, talked to the tranny shop and he's short one worker so it's going to be Tuesday or Wednesday at the earliest.

Here's what I'm going to pick up:

4300 lbs, 10.5' long, 60hp turbo diesel, wireless radio remote control, and a large appetite for stumps.
