I don't think the plastic is needed.

The speakers are 2 ohm so you need to replace them with something the same, unless you move to a good sound system. I don't know who makes them tho.

you have to buy 6.50-6.75 inch speakers and most don't come with the plastic spacer. so yes keep them. if you dont use them your windows will hit the magnet on the speaker, and wont roll down all the way.

Man, speakers were talked over and over to death in this forum. I'll not get into any details. Check out the long winded indepth discussion on what recommendations to take and what not in the top FAQ for durangos.

thank's for the responses

now another question
been doing some research on wanting to keep the Inifinity speakers

Crutchfield recommends the Infinity 6022SI model

store here has the 6022I model on sale ( Crutchfield doesn't recommend them )

i really can't see a difference in them

need to replace the speakers this week leaving for Eldora Speedway in 11 days for the Prelude

any help would be great

SteelTown,

I am going to save my aching fingers from extending this post any longer. I will save you the trouble in finding the speaker discussion in very fine details concerning your questions over speakers. The message thread did discuss the 6022 speakers you have in question.

Please read and if needed, continue your questions on the discussion thread posted below.

I am locking this thread now.

As always, please check our Top Questions and Answers FAQ posted at the top of this 1st generation discussion forum. We are sticking very detailed and commonly asked questions in that thread for all to be able to have easy access to.

Thanks
