I can relate to the mileage increase mainly because you are removing some of the parasitic power loss when the front drive shaft was connected.

My only concern is that the front axle is still in its locked state if you have a AWD setup that converted to 2WD. The front axle is always in the engaged mode so it will actually cause a drag on your Durango. This is where problaby N8ech is showing the facts about the mpg's not improving much if at all because of the drag.

If you have modified the front axle to a part time axle where it will not be engaged, then you will eliminate that drag.

I done this on my toyota truck when my front drive shaft broke when I went 4 wheeling in the sand dunes of west texas. I noticed a drag going against the truck. Felt like trying to accelerate with brakes on. Then it hit me that my front axle is still locked to my front tires. Stopped the truck and unlocked the hubs. Now my truck is moving along freely without that dragging feeling.
