Default Small Vibration on the Highway

For the last few months when driving down the interstate going anywhere between 70mph and 80mph I have noticed a small vibration in my steering wheel and center console. It's not abad vibration but it's noticeable and kinda annoying while driving. When I put the D on cruise control it goes away.If I get on a smooth stretch of road with the cruise control off, it doesn't always vibrate.I have no problems between 0 and 65 mph. Is this a u-joint or ball joint going bad?

Thanks!

I'm thinking your tires are out of balance.

Could be a bad shock, or other steering/suspension problem.

It could have something to do with a U-joint tho.

I'll take it to the repair shop this weekend and see if they can figure it out. It could very well be an out of balance tire.

Well I had the tires balanced and rotated. They also found I needed an alignment even though I never felt it veer one way or another. Now it's vibrating at 65mph or higher.

I'm thinking I'll have the U-joints replaced and hopefully that will solve it.

Take it back and have them Test drive it at those speeds. Shouldnt be vibrating at all, let alone 65.

It's not happening to the steering wheel. I can feel it in my chair and the center console. It's not a horrible vibration but enough for me to do something about it. I will be taking it back in to them. I am pretty certain it's a u-joint.

Well I took it back in and they said the U-joints look fine and everything looks good underneath. They went ahead and balanced the tires again and on the way home I felt a big difference. I took the D up to 75 this time without a vibration. I think my problem is solved! They must have not done a good job of balancing the tires the first time.

I Have this same issue at 65 MPH, With my 2006 1500 QC 4X4 with 17 inch wheels, I was gettingthe vibration with the OEM times but not as bad, They were pretty gone at 30 K, so I replaced the tires with new BFG Long trail from discount, still a vibration. Took to the dealer and they said replaced the front and rear drive shafts and said I have a bad tire. I went back to Discount and they replaced the tire. Still the vibration is there.Discount then replace all my new tires again with new Yakamas, still the vibration at 65, I took it back to the dealer and they said. Nothing wrong with the truck, you need toreplace your Tires with Michelin OEM tires to get rid of the vibration.Told them they were nuts.

Any Mechanics out heard of this craziness?
