HELP... Rear brakes dragging
Any one have this problem. 99 Durango 318, rear ABS. Symptoms: Rear brakes drag, rear brakes will only bleed with vehicle running, a little pressure is getting to the rear without appling brakes when running, pressure not returning to the master cylinder
I have replaced all rear hardware and wheel cyclinders. Sorry so short, long post not working.
If you remove the front drivers side wheel the is a small access panel on the inside of the wheel well on the splash cover. It is located toward the right hand side. Remove this panel to gain access to the brake balance control unit. (not quite sure if that is the name or not) It has the input from the Master Cylinder and a couple of outputs. This is located mounted on the frame on the inside of the cover.
This balances the fluid pressures for the wheels. It might be your problem.

I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to replace it anyways, the D has 312K miles on it. I'll take it if you can find it. I think the rear brake hose is collapsed on the inside, and is not allowing the fluid to return to the Master cylinder. Going to order it today hopefully i will get it this weekend. Will let you know.
I have chased the same problem for about a year. I was going to change the rear flex brake line but the fittings were too rusty. Then I noticed the bracket that hangs the line near the spare. The bracket looked very tightly crimped on the line. I took some plyers and opened up the bracket and could hear the brakes release. I returned the new line to the parts store and the brakes worked great after tweeking the rear adjusters.
I got the hose in this weekend, butthe kids took me to the zoo for fathers day. So ididn't get a chance to play with it. I will definatley take a look at that bracket tonight. Thanks for the lead Craska.

Well im happy to report the rear brakes are now functioning as they are supposed too. The hose was bad(crimp was fine). Unfortunatly now the front brakes are dragging while i drive. I had already replaced everything but the hoses, i guess ill need to replace them as well.
