I have a 1999 5.9L Durango SLT that won't start. It's getting fuel but no spark. Is there any easy checkbefore I call the mechanic? I had no problems with it leading up to the no starting. I turned it offone eveningand the next morning it wouldn't start. Thanks!

 

I would look at the ignition components closely. Have you had any issues with rough idling lately?

 

Not really rough idling, but occasionally it would rev up to about 2000rpm when I first start it and then immediately drop to idle at a normal range.

 

Will the engine turn over at all now? How did you determine you aren't getting spark? Do you have any other details about the problem?

 

Yes, it turns over like crazy. And after cranking it for a little bit, I smelled gas. I'm assumingspark is the missing component.

 

Have you done the timing recently? it should be done every 60k miles IIRC.

 

have you checked the codes? is there any? did you check the crank position sensor?
