Default Help with 4.7L Serpentine belt!!

I have a 2001 Durango with the 4.7L. Instructions to release belt tension say rotate the tensioner until it hits it's stop. How do you do that? This implies just grabbing it with your hands and rotate it but I know that cannot be true. Help Please!

It has been a little while since I changed my belt but if I remember correctly you need to put a socket on the idler pulley which will rotate the tensioner.

So the socket goes on the idler pulley and not the tensioner itself?

I believe you just need a 1/2" socket wrench/breaker barto pull the idler over. There is a square slot on the idler.

Thanks guys. Attached is the Dodge instruction sheet for anyone interested. Of course, it does not tell how to rotate the tensioner.

It has been a while since I changed mine, so I won't try to confuse you on the procedure, but I wlll makea very strong recommendation for a type of belt if you have changed the belt yet.

GOODYEAR GATORBACK available from Autozone, Not sure of the major auto parts retailer in your area, but Igot mine from A/Z inApril 07, stillrunning strong after about 17k miles, the writing is still visible. A little pricey (approx $30-35) but I recommend it strongly.
