Default Purge Valve 99 durango

Ok so my GF truck is throwin a code about the purge valve.

It idles fine but when you start to accelerate is feels like it is missing, the fast you go the worse it gets. on the highway it really starts to shake bad. once your crusing and over 60 it will just go back to feeling like it is missing every once in a while. It is very hard to explain but and it is not the same everyday.

Question is what is the purge valve (never heard of it) and would this be a side effect from it?

Did they clear the code? If they didn't and your GFhas a 00' or newer go to it and turn the key on and off 3 times on the 3rd turn leave it in the on position and write down the code/s that appear in the ODO. window. It really sounds like a maintenance issue. Probably just needs a tune up.

they didnt clear it. its a 99. I read about the turn the key thing earlier and i wish it was an 00. I really dont think its just a tune up. it shudder bad but only when it wants to. other times it is only noticable if you are the one driving.

P0441 according to the engine code index at the top of the forum. This is most likely a loose/bad gas cap. It will not affect driveablility whatsoever but does nothing good for the environment. Tighten the cap and see if the code comes back. If it does replace it with an OEM cap. As for your driveability issue. Look into a tune up. The first thing I would do is pull the plugs and inspect them for wear or fouling. If it's been a while it wouldn't hurt to replace the wires, cap, and rotor as well.

her dad thinks it is the cat. He is a Parts Manager at a Dodge dealership he just isnt taken care of it so i figured i would try and see what i could do. Ill try the cap and see what happens. I might take a look over it just dont undersand him. If it comes down to it ill do the tune up.

Cats usually don't go bad unless thevehicle isn't running properly.
