Most likely they were PVC and not plastic if they were water pipe so long story short, yes it will hold up for a very long time.

Yeah, unfortunately materials can be hard to find in my location. If the plastic (or PVC) lasts even 6-12 months I'll be happy enough, got plenty of pipe and now I have the tools and know how a couple hours a year replacing the spacers is no problem.

Thanks again Kensai for your write-up and photos, made the job easy

I have read all the posts on this repair and I have one question. When you say the seat "rocked" do you mean "rock" like a rocking chair or the seat "slides" forward and back (adjusting fore and aft) during acceleration and stopping. Both my passenger and driver seats slide forward and back. You can sit in the seat. buckle the seat belt grab the steering wheel and pull. The seat will slide forward and if you push on steering wheel you will slide back. If this is what your seat does then I can repair my seats because they are driving me crazy. I have a friend that owns a first gen 'D' and her seats do the same thing but not as much movement as my seats.

Hey Augie,

yeah, the problem is the seat slides backwards and forwards, exactly as you describe it.

Fixed mine back in March following the instructions by Kensai and using slices of plastic water pipe as spacers. Happy to report that 5 months later it is still perfect

OK, so when I picked my truck up from the dealer yesterday my seat now does this...
I immediately called when I got home to complain as it NEVER did this.
The service manager stated that the mechanic that fixed my recall was a really tall guy, so maybe he put it all the way back or something. Not taking the blame but saying to bring it back and have it looked at.
So my question to ya'll is WHAT caused this? It was NOT like this when I dropped it off and now its HORRIBLE. Annoying slide forward when I stop and slides back when I accelerate. UGHHHHH.

off topic but not to mention they said they fixed the recall (where you can just put it in Reverse) and they DID NOT at all. I can put it in any gear with no brake... It's if anything WORSE and easier to put in reverse. What a crock... They did not even say they did not fix it. So WTF? it's so obvious they either didn't test it or just didn't give a crap. I'm just happy to have my baby back and the noise from the front drive shaft is all gone!!

Almost sounds like he broke something adjusting the seat...I guess the first thing I'de ask would be is it a power seat?
But regardless bring it back as soon(and carefully) as you can and stand by the fact that it wasn't like that BEFORE you brought it in and please fix it....(only enough of the please ****e to be professionally curtious).....Oh,congrads on front end,I could tell you were bummin about the truck being messed up...

Good to know, but yea it STILL goes into reverse without a foot on the brake. If anything easier now... So not fixed at all.

thanks laz45 it is a power seat Durango RT baby... I'm always a lady, I can be very persuasive about my truck. I don't take no ****! Hopefully they can fix it. Annoys me to death and as God is my witness was NOT that way when I dropped it off!

He broke the seat. It was likely close to failing based on the age and when he adjusted it back, it broke.

With that said, they don't have to know what you know in terms of how the seat failure is a common thing and that it was likely close to failing anyways. Just make them fix it. AND STAY ON THEM about it. They will likely try to duck out of it because the seat section is no longer available, hard to find and about $800 last time I looked into it.
