Default 98-D A/C Useless

Hello - There seems to be a lot of knowledgeable people here! Maybe you can help. My 5.9L 98-D w/o rear a/c has been a great vehicle but the a/c has never worked very well. I'm the original owner and the dealership put a dye tracer in the system (while under warranty), found no leaks and said it was performing to manuf. specs. It never did work well compared to my friends 98 RAM1500 a/c blows frost within 5-10 seconds of turning it on.
I just had the a/c checked and recharged. No leaks found during pressure/vacuum testing. Q: should the a/c be running during the test, and recharge? Well, $190 later the a/c barely gets cool. It's useless . Any questions or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Bruce

I agree that the a/c units do suck but i wrapped my lines with insulation tape and its blowing 10 degrees lower. Its cold but not freezing. Here is the link..https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen-durango/111630-colder-ac.html

Default Better Now

Thanks for all the info. I had a friend check and found a low charge. He
did a vacuum, recharged w/oil & freon. Will keep an eye on it. Will also
look into wrapping the return line. That's a great suggestion! I did notice
it sat right over the exhaust manifold.

Bruce

oh, the a/c still doesn't get too cold (in town). Have to run it on MAX
to keep it comfortable. wrapping the line should help.
