Default Need help with transfer case!!!

My buddy has a 98 durango with 5.9L and what the dealer is telling him is a 242 transfer case. He needs a new transfer case but is having a hard time finding a good used or rebuilt one. Can anyone tell me if he should be able to put in the more common but less durable 231. Not sure if this will mate up with the 5.9L and exsisting parts under the truck. Or if somone knows of a good place to go to get one at a good price it would be great to know. you can email me at ronald.ryker@us.army.mil.

He can't rebuild the transfer case that's in there? Should be rebuild kits all over the place on the net...

Or he can find a used one with a warranty here. Or he can buy a cheap trashed one and get a rebuild kit elsewhere and have it built to his liking then swapped in his rig...

If that link doesn't work, go to the main page and search....

I've bought transmissions, axles, drivelines and a bunch of other small stuff from this site. And most of the sellers offer warranties.
