Default First Generation Durango Air-Con

I have a 2003 First Generation Durango and I live in the middle east. The Air-Conditioning is not the greatest having been sized to suit the Dakota I guess. My question is this. On most other SUV's and 4x4's, especially those from Japan, there is an additional fan, with automatic cut-in/cut-out, to assist in cooling the condenser when the truck is stationary and engine is running or it is in slow moving traffic, which is often the case here in Qatar.

Is it possible to install something similar on the Durango and if so has anyone done it already and can they provide some details/guidance.

Thanks

You'll find the clearance infront of the condenser is very limited when the bonnet is down - I have a 99 D so it maybe different for you...I also have an electric main fan as standard rather than the clutch fan you probably have...

Durango air conditioning is not the best but can be improved by ensuring that the blend door (search this forum for this issue) is not bleeding hot air into the cold in the air box behind the dash board. Also ensure that you have no leaks and that the system has been serviced. Lagging the pipes from the compressor may help.

Frankly if you're D is not overheating in the summer heat then be grateful....Chris

There was an optional (electronic) fan that was installed between the radiator and the clutch fan. Check to see if it is there and if it is working.

Also there is a lot of sand over there and users have had the same problems that are located over there. Take the truck to the car wash and spray out the condensor by opening the hood and hit it strait on. Clean both the condensor and then the radiator. Just be careful with it.

Also check the system pressure to make sure that you are not low.

you could also take some heat wrap tape , or somthing similar and wrap your ac lines with it, ive read here on the forum about others doing this to their D and improving ac temps
