Unhappy Won't Start Unless its Hot Outside

My mother's 2001 Dodge Durango won't start in the morning but it will start after say 1200 in the heat of the day. In the beginning it would start after a couple of tries at 0700 but in the afternoon, in Georgia, it would start and drive no problem. As the weeks went on it would cur off while driving, turning corners or slowing down but again it would start right up in the afternoon. I took it in to a local shop, great, caring guys, they replace a couple of things and it would start; of course by then it would be in the afternoon but the sext morning it wouldn't start again. I'm heartbroken because I'm still making payments on this truck. My disabled mother has no transportation now. She had bilateral knee replacements and this truck was a God send. PLease someone help my family and I.

Welcome!

Well lets start here. I'm thinking it's a problem with the Air Charge Temp Sensor. Or it could just need a tune up.

Can you please tell me the motor size? (4.7L or 5.9L) And when you did your last tune up including the part name brands if you have them.

Smile Mom is checking.

We bought the vehicle 2 years ago. She doesn't remember if she has had a tune-up; she's elderly and I just moved here; retired from the military. The dealership checked the battery, AIS Motor, Crank Sensor, CAM Sensor and Ignition Switch. They said they could try a new computer but once its on its mine; can't be removed and reused. All the aforementioned parts were put on and taken off when they didn't fix the problem. Will email you back with engine size when mom calls me back.

Pull the spark plugs and install regular Champion spark plugs. (Remember to gap em) There is no Cap and Rotor or Wires. Only the over head coil packs which you remove to get to each of the spark plugs. (there are 8 coils, one for each plug)

Second I would go to the Air Charge Temp Sensor.

Smile Thanks

I'll try the spark plugs. Hopefully that works. I hate to lose a perfectly okay vehicle. I hope I don't have to go any further. I thank you for your help.

Again I think that tune up's are the best to keep things like this from happening. Then again a lot of people take their vehicles to shops and the shops install what they like. Unfortunately the problem with this occurs as the parts they install (unless discussed) are parts they can get discounted or again what THEY like to use.

We here at the DF test and re-test parts to get the very best for the overall consumer. Not to mention we love what we do and we are tired of having issues like THESE happen to us. Sometimes we are not always right but we are here for you regardless.

It is easier to combust fuel and air ratio when things are warmer. Now if it’s not just spark plugs then I would go strait to the Air Charge Temp Sensor.

To answer your question; this is not a well known problem. There are many things that could be the problem but we will work with you to figure it out ASAP and use the most efficient way possible.

Regardless, if by chance this doesn’t fix your problems they will sure help you out in performance, gas mileage, drivability, and overall likeness of your vehicle. When you rig runs great it just feels good not to mention help you have a better day overall.

BTW<-------If ya sell it just for this problem let me know!
