Question 99 bodylift steering extention help?????

couldnt find anything on it.. 99 dd 5.2 4x4 did the body lift everything went smooth but the only problem i had was the dam steering extension. every half turn it would bind up on me to a point where it would just lock and had to muscle the s*** out her to unbind. "truck was running" it looked like the gear box side u joint on the steering shaft was the one binding on me. anything i did had the same luck the extension maybe added a 1 or 2 degree dif. on u joint angle. so already taking and ungodly 10 hrs by myself cause my friends bailed. i just wanted it done. so i bypassed the steering extension surprisingly i slide the shaft to full extension and had about a 1/16'' play on it. bolted her up and so far so good no prob. call up the manufactuer next day and the tech said that he had some cases of this extension not working right for some owners "few" but some. and as long as steering was properly working to be very cautious and to be easy with it till it felt comfortable.

thats cool, i would norm take that answer and forget about it, but im picking up my 3yr old now in the truck and want to be 100% im not going to lose my steering
could i have a bad steering shaft???? or a bad gear box??????
and if its a bad shaft could that be why it feels like my front end is loose as a goose. i know my lower ball joints are going but i have NO movement for the 9-3 and 12-6 and up and down check please any ideas anyone have the same problem ?? and sorry for the long post

I would be very careful with that fix. I haven't seen any problems with the extention yet so thats kinda new. I hope you still have a good amount of rod left for strength.

You should have gottin that steering problem fixed first. The steering box can be adjusted for ware. I had mine done at Firestone for about $30.

You can always take it in for a 4 wheel aglinment and have them check for possible play someware in the system. Then just fix it yourself or what ever. I have a ifetime aglinment for my truck so I can take it in anytime. I works out great and they never question me.

How do you know about the ball joints being worn?

honestly the angle is not shifted that much where any concern should happen. If you have the same extension as i do then maybe it is just seated wrong and catching the case. I took a quick look at mine and even with a raised column (custom work) an inch above normal it still does not bind. a few shots from ps pump failure

I don't think so.

Did you have the box adjusted?

well i got everything working correctly. well it wasn't binding. i can't believe i didn't see it during install. it wasn't the steering extention, it was the oem shaft pinch bolt. i guess mine was closer to the frame. the end of the bolt would hit the frame and would get caught up. so i ended up grinding the end of the bolt to where it was flush on the shaft. now the extention is on and the oem shaft bolt is not hitting the frame anymore. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PICS AND ALL ADVICE.
