Ok, this is odd, when acclerating the D makes a ticking sound inside the dash, let up on the pedal and it goes away. It isn't that loud but once you notice it, then its very annoying.

Any ideas????


No, its not injectors or anything - the sound is definately from right around the gauge cluster and only when accelerating.

 

And this just started or has it been an issue?

may have always been there. We just bought the D with 20K miles on her. 4.7 L

 

It's not the purge solenoid is it? Very consistent tick noise, more noticable at idle.

 

is it inside the cabin or the engine compartment? this noise definately comes from inside and increases in speed as you depress the pedal. really not to loud and hard to even hear when driving w the radio on.

no, not keys. sounds like a little gear or something like that, but only when accelerating and moving. it is like a miniature version of the sound a bicycle makes with cards in the spokes....

 

do you have any rocks in your tires? we get that in the ram sumtimes and its annoy...we juss pull over and get them out



so its oly while moving and acceling right? not at idle

 

I agree, may sound like a purge solenoid. I also have that type of sound that seems to be coming from inside the dash and it changes with engine RPM. But dealer says it's okay and nothing to worry about??

 

I am having a similar problem just opposite though. When I am coasting or not appling the gas I heard a constant ticking noise coming from the front end. Thought it was a stuck pad or caliper but Les Schwab said everything was a-ok. Any one have a clue?
