I recently had some work done on my D and noticed when I got my truck back a large sized lug nut on one of my rear wheels that wasn't there before I got it fixed. I figured they must have lost a lug not and had to replace it with another one. Anyway, I had a spare lug nut, so I took the large one off, but my spare won't fit! It's too small. It looks like they replaced the stud which tells me they must have stripped the old one, but it's not the right size.

Is this a problem? Should I make them put the correct size stud back on?

that would have been the first thing i did when i noticed that it was more than just alost nut i would have driven back to them and demanded that they put the correct part in and if they refuse id suggest getting yourself a good lawyer

 

Well it was too late this afternoon when I noticed it. I will take it in the morning. I was planning to. I have terrible luck with car shops. Even the ones I hear are supposed to be good!! GRRR

The question is, will they be able to put the correct size in as it is without having to replace other parts? This is so frustrating. I just paid to have new shocks, new U-joints, new front brake pads, and now I have to deal with this.

 

They screwed it up so they can fix it period.

If they give you crap!... just explain how they screwed it up and covered it up and how if you were on the side of the road with a flat how they would expect you to fix it. A stripped lug could have been removed and a new one installed. It's just not that hard!!!!Grrrrr! They need to fix what they broke and they won't want to do so most likley. But this is the point I'm trying to say. They should have let you know period. So if they don't want to let ya know then let em have a full can of whop-***!

 

yea i agree w/ hydra if they fuked it up then they can pay to replace no charge to you they should have just fixed it right the first time then they wouldnt have had any problems i would make them fix it at no cost to you and make them fix it correctly at that

 

Your not the only one..... I think most car shops anymore are just rip offs. I try to do all my work myself but then there is always things you need to have them do from time to time.

 

And so concludes the reason we are here!

Well, I took it back and they fixed it correctly without a problem. Was probably just some employee of theirs trying to fix it with what he had. I hate it when people cut corners!! This is why I started changing my own oil. I wish I could do more....

 

You can do more... No need to wish... Just buy a maintenance manual and read.. then before doing a job if you have any questions just ask... Much is pretty strait forward until you start getting internal.

 

yup thats the truth if you dont mind getting your hands dirty you can no 75% or more of the work on the outside of the engine yourself it might not be easy but it is doable
