Default An original (dum) question I hope...

Hi,

I own a 5.9l 1999 2WD D...

I decided to "over maintain" vehicle one evening when I noticed that the rubber pipe that leads from the PCV valve across the engine to the intake manifold was cracked & splitting at the manifold end.

So I decided to chop half an inch off the end and slip it back on to the pipe that sticks out of the intake manifoild - but I couldn't get the rubber pipe over the little bump on the end of the metal pipe.

No problem I said...the D's going in for service soon...I'll just bung something in both ends of the pipes to block them and get the dealer to sort it.

So I did...and at that time of night some paper towel came to hand...

Predictably this got wedged in this metal pipe sticking out of the intake manifold and I ended up resorting to using a cotton bud with glue on the end to get it all out.

Now the pipe is clear and the bud appears to be entering into free space inside the manifold...

Question...can somebody reassure me that that this is the case and that this pipe just opens up into the inside of the manifold...?? Just want to make sure that I got all this wretched towel out.

Thanks...Chris

Nothings a dumb question if you don't know the answer to it.

This intake feeds directly into the manifold belly. This is why the vacuum stays continuous. It is stretched out to draw from all intake valves.

So there's no chance of a wedge of paper towel blocking this pipe...??
It feels like the pipe just opens out into empty space inside the manifold rather than it goes any further or has any bends in it...

No bends that I know of.

It goes into the manifold and opens up into the belly pan. If anything is in there it would be sucked into the combustion cylinder and burned. I wouldn't worry about it.
