Well first it sounds like you have a 4.7L?

If you want info you need to leave more info. Engine, year, 2wd/4X4???????

Second give it some time. We just don't sit around all day and wait for threads to start.

Third. Why not just rebuild it?????

1999-2003 used a 16 tooth reluctor ring and the 2004-2008 use a 32 tooth reluctor "MECHANICALLY" are the tone rings at the rear end of the crank shaft.

By the way, this is a 4.7L right?

My apologies. It's a 2002, 4.7L, 4WD. I need the fastest option possible as i use this for work. I'm not gonna do the work myself cause i have zero patience for nuts and bolts. I'll do all the electrical work in the world but keeping track of a trillion screws drives me nuts.

Background on the issue. I let it go way too long without an oil change, i know i know...., and it developed a tick. I assumed it was a lifter and decided i could live with it. it's not the healthiest thing to do, but i didn't have the moeny or time to get it repaired. Last night i'm driving and the ticking changes to a deep grumble and i have an extreme loss in power. Looks like i should have made the time or borrowed the money to fix the small problem, cause these engines aren't cheap...

Once again, sorry for the snobby posts, i'm just flipping out looking at prices, figuring out how i'm going to work while my truck's out of comission, etc.

Everything i'm reading says 2002.5 used the 32 tooth. I just got an answer from dodge.justanswer.com.

Mopar expert says you can tell from the engine computer. "Hi. You are correct, the tone wheels can be different. The 2002.5 Durangos were the first to get the new NGC type engine controller. They used the different tone wheel. To tell if you have the newer or older one is easy. Find your engine controller in the engine compartment on the passenger fender. If you have 3 32 way connectors on the controller you have the older Chrysler JTEC controller, if you have four 38 way connectors you have the later NGC. If you try to install the wrong engine in yours it won't start. You would have to tear the engine down and swap the cam sprocket tone wheels to get it to run."
hopefully that's not an infringement on their website... didn't read the disclaimers.

I wanted to pull the head off and check it out but the amount of crap on top really turned me off, especially with my disdain for keeping everything organized.

I had another question along the same lines though... Does the 5.9 bolt up to the 4.7 tranny? I've seen a ton of lower mileage 5.9s cheaper than higher mileage 4.7s. Only issue is I'm rather sure "engine assemblies" are missing exh/intae manifolds, pumps, yada yada. Whereas if i got a 4.7 i could just have the shop swap all mine over.

They are two different motor blocks, PCM, motor mounts, trans and yada

They won't interchange.
