Default Transmission / rear end noise

98, Durango 4x4 5.2 Around 250,000 mileage. There is a noise coming from the trans, rear end area. It only makes the noise when the gas pedal is pressed. Its night and day. No noise while coasting and then all noise when the gas pedal is pressed. You can hear it inside the truck while driving. It's loud, about conversation loud. I checked the transfer case, and the two differs for fluid levels and they were good. It's been doing this for a few months with no problems, yet. What is the noise?

If it is a grumbling noise you may need to take a look at your rear diff.
