Gas in oil
Hi guys, HELP!!!!
We have a 2003 Durango SLT 4X4 with a 4.7,automatic trans, with just over 100k on her. Went to check oil today and found out it was 1-1/2 quarts low.
No biggy, removed oil filler cap and to my horror I see what looks like a tannish Coagulated looking film about 1/4 inch thick coating the filler cap and filler tube. Wiped out as best as I could.
Could not help notice, that it has the order of gas. Thats why I say I have gas in my oil. Other than bad gas mileage the engine runs fine. What do I need to do? I'm thinking Intake manifold gasket, but not sure. Please if anybody can help...
Thanks for your help in advance...

Do a flush and then do oil changes at every 1000 miles 3 or 4 times to clean the engine up. If you aren't using synthetic already you may want to make the switch. It will make the engine last much longer and keep it much cleaner. Don't chince out on the oil filter either. The fuel smell is pretty normal in any engine as there is always a little blowby especially after that many miles.
You may want to spend the extra $20 and send an oil sample out for analysis to see what is going on inside your engine.

if you're getting bad gas mileage, check your plugs.. if one plug isn't firing well, or at all, the cylinder may be getting flooded with fuel and the compression is forcing the fuel past the piston rings into the oil pan..
I had this problem while trying to tune a motorcycle.. everytime we started cranking the motor over it would prime the cylinders with fuel, and after a while the motor was so flooded that the oill was completely filled with gas, and with the injectors unplugged the motor cranked, fired up, and ran for a few seconds running on the residual gas that lined the cylinder walls..
moral of the story, check your plugs.

Trust me, its a 4.7 thingy and its not as bad as you think it is.. It's just something that happens..
Thanks a Million guys. Much more relaxed now. I'll defiantly do everything you guys suggested. I will post the results as soon as I can, to update you.
Thanks For taken the time to respond. It means alot....

Hi, I have a 2003 Dodge Durango and every time I change my oil it has a gas smell. It runs great, doesn't smoke, the gas milage hasn't changed, the level of the oil on the dipstick is accurate. What are some possibilities that could be causing this? Thanks.
