Default driver side front end making noise

I recently bought a 99 dodge durango and now i am noticing the driver side front end making a clanking noise when I go over bumps in the road. When I apply the brakes over the bumps in the road the noise goes away. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing the noise ... plz help

Have similar problem...checked ball joints and they seem to be within reason.
Am looking at new shocks and will have them do more thorough check of ball joint play then.
Newer Durangos have faulty ball joints and have been recalled.
Don't understand how Dodge avoided recalling older models (pre-2000) unless they changed ball joints in 2000 to faulty ones or if all of us older model owners are driving time bombs.

Hey I have the same year durango and a problem just like yours. Mines does it everytime I am in AWD or 4WD and tuning with acceleration. Did you ever figure out what the problem was? Thanks

Had same problem. Thought it was the hub, had it replaced it was bad anyway. Noise is still there. Had same sort of problem on an old chevy truck. One of the bolts holding the caliper in place was snapped in half. Maybe worth checking.

Yep leo mine was the retaining spring or whatever it's called. It's extremely annoying but follow your ears and go with your gut on it.

Hey guys on my front end, I recently found out that it was a bad front propeller shaft/front driveshaft. The flange the bolts onto the transfer case had gone bad and anytime I accelerated it made a hell of alot of noise. FYI they dont sell just the flange and Im about to buy the shaft...its $390. For any of you guys that find you have this problem or a bad front u joint, with awd all you have to do is drop the front driveshaft and put your D in 4 hi. No damage will come, by locking it in 4 hi...u have just gain rwd, just make sure you keep your speed limited to around 55 or below just to be safe.

Frankenstien, are you saying that the dealer doesn't sell the flange?

YOu could probably buy a better beefed up flange from one of the 4wheel parts stores. Or you could look in a junk yard somewhere, I am sure you could find an older Dakota in a junkyard that would use the same flange. Dealers are notorious for using the same parts on things such as 4wd systems.
