2001 durango audio system problem
alright so ill be fine with the normal 6022i's, which is good. the thing i mentioned about the 2.5 inch wasn't in refrence to the depth, sorry to confuse you, my mistake.
i believe that it is a tweeter that i mentioned that is about 2.5 inches in diameter located somewhat near the door handle on the two rear passenger doors. but i'm not sure, im just curious.
since i need to know, how can you tell if your durango has an infinity system already installed? or how do you distingush between durango with a stock oem system or a stock infinity ( i have come to realize that there is either a stock system or infinity system which is another choice other than the stock when purchasing a duragno) (neither me nor my dad would know is there another way to check?)
if so where is the amp located?
are both the rear and front speakers the same size (6 1/2)?
Thank you for your help.

With the tweeter you can simply by a bass blocker for it to put on the positive line. this will alow you to crank the bass up with your new speakers.
I think someone here said the amp was on the passenger side kick panel.

Both front and rear doors uses 6.5 inch speakers. The fronts, if Infinity are setup as component speakers, the front 6.5's are setup as midrange/bass with separate tweeter mounted up higher on the door. The Rears are simple 2 way speakers with the tweeter mounted on the speaker itself. I think also, the speakers should also have the Infinity name imprinted on the 6.5 inch OEM speakers.
Yes, the OEM amp is located in the front passenger kick panel. If anyone has found a perfect aftermarket 4 channel amp that can fit in the kick panel, let me know, I been looking for a replacement amp for a while now and no luck. I think my OEM amp, the rear channel is getting a little weak. Fronts actually overwhelm the rear on any consistent volume setting.
Sorry buddy, didnt mean to offend or sound like an *** i was just trying to respond with the easiest answer. Alot of people would cringe if i went too deep into it with details. xD
hey man, don't worry about. it was my fault, I was just frustrated with your answer because it was kind of like duh to me and didn't really go into enough depth on what was wrong ( i prefer the juicy details :]) but thanks for trying to keep it simple. and like I said my apologies and dont worry about.
Kensai-the one thing that is keeping me from believeing that i have an infinity system other than taking the time to look is the fact that you say the rear speaker is a two way with the tweeter mounted directly on the speaker, but from what im seeing if correct, the tweeter on the rear doors are seperate from the speaker itself mounted up near the door handle as you say the fronts should be. i also don't see infinity printed anywhere on anything, so I'll take a look today and see what the hell is in there.

i have a 2000 d and when i bought the truck the sound system sounded like crap i took the door panel off and found the woofers in the front door both were blown the rubber surround was no longer connected all around but the radio sounded ok with the bass all the way down becouse obviously most of the sound was coming from the tweeters wich were fine so wat im tryin to say is the your woofers are probly blown but not your tweeters anyway hope i could shed some light saw the post and related
My 2000 durango has the chrysler infinity sound system. When i purchased the vehicle last month i noticed that the rear speakers produced no sound other than the occasional crackle when i hit a bump. I just bought two sets of infinity reference speakers new from best buy (they are the 3rd generation) and i am hoping to install them once i figure out why there is no power to the rear speakers. I assume it's a short because of the crackling. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
