Unhappy Clikity Clank...No more 2 wheel drive?????

My family and I were on a trip up north when we were doing about 100kms and all of the sudden the truck started making a whirrrrrrrr and then a clikity clank, clikity clank. There was no drive left. The engine is fine and the RPM's behave normally....When I tried to put the truck in 4wdHi, it began to drive again...switch back to 2 wheel and clikity clank again and no drive. I'm able to drive around as long as i leave it in 4x4 but it is clanky and noisy at slow speeds and doesn't really seem to be in 4 wheel cuz i'm slipping in the snow easily...Someone please help....any suggestions?

Transfer case? rear axle? jack all 4 wheels up and see if all 4 wheels are turning to tell if you are in 4X4

In 4X4 you are using the front axel to pull you and the problem has to be in one of three places.

1. Transfer Case
2. Rear Axel
3. Drive Shaft

Put it in 2wd. Put it in gear and have someone look under the D. Hold the break and give a little gas. If the driveshaft is turning but your not moving ( happened to me) It's rear gears or axleshaft. Mine was the gears. If the driveshaft doesnt turn, then transfer case. Just my 2 cents worth.

Good luck
Ted

I may have your solution but need to know if yours is AWD or not.

Damn I didn't even think of that! It may just need new fluid though.
