Default Crank Shaft Harmonic Damper

Hi,

I've discovered the cause of my oil on 99 5.9l D....the oil seal on the crankshaft behind the harmonic damper had blown. It also appeared that the rubber inside the damper was in the process of disintegrating...

So was excessive vibration the cause of the oil seal failure...and if so what are my bearings going to be like...??

anybody heard of a fatigure failure on a crankshaft in a D...??

No failures that I've ever heard of. Replace the seal and the balancer and take an engine oil sample and send it out for analysis. For around $20 (here in the U.S. anyway) they can tell you what/if you have any issues.
