Ma/Pa has alot of good sources for axles but it would be impossible to give you an est. price since you would be going private purchase (new axles expect $5000 for a 44 and way above for a 60 front end)
And since you have to go private the person selling is the main contender, most think they have gold, some dont know what they have. In your instance i wouldnt recomend paying more that $500, that being if the axle needs work (match gearing etc etc ) and a lil under $1000 if its been re-worked already.
Going on a baseline of what you would need (axle)
-Dana 44 or dana 60
-Must be Drivers side diff
-Appropriate WMS
Additional suggestions
-Recomended kingpin but balljoint would do. cheaper/weaker
-High pinion ( Drive shaft is at the top of the diff, more clearance )
Yes leafs are the cheapest/easiest way to sas but you sacrifice articulation and ride quality (stiff ). Iv'e seen leafs worked out on paper (calculated weight ratios/etc etc) that have some good articulation and adjusted ride but i dont know anything in that field so i wouldnt be able to help you with that.
